5x60
Children In Need Rowing Event
Wednesday 18th December saw over
60 pupils, and various members of staff, take part in rowing the distance
from RCT to Africa. Combining the total miles rowed with the 5 other Cynon
Valley Schools we aimed to get as far across the Atlantic as possible.
With Blaengwawr adding a very respectable 70 miles to the total, we
certainly rowed out of Wales at least!
The event took place in the Youth
Wing on the school site, with 3 rowing machines kindly donated for the
event from Pontypridd High. With coverage from BBC Radio Wales and huge
participation from young people in each year group, the event was very
successful.
Sponsorship money is still coming
in thick and fast and so far we have raised over £268.39 for Children In
Need. The event was a great way to fundraise for this fantastic charity
but also enabled pupils to continue to take part in the 5x60 scheme,
trying something new which could lead to a 5x60 rowing club in the New
Year!
I would like to say a HUGE thank
you to everyone who got involved especially to Mr Brock and Miss Pedrick for
helping to run the event. Congratulations to Tom Legge who rowed the
furthest distance in the 5 minute time slot for the boys and Angharad
Evans for the girls. Also
a big thank you to Owain Walters in Year 7 for raising a staggering £34
to add to the pot.
5x60 is still continuing to run
with clubs on every lunch time and after school, for any more info or if
you have an idea for something sporty you would like to see at Blaengwawr
please come and see me.
Many Thanks for everyone’s
support in this event
