Religious Education at Blaengwawr is a very successful and popular subject. Examination results at GCSE and A level are consistently above county and national averages and the subject attracts large pupil numbers.
The department has two specialist teaching rooms with interactive whiteboards in each.
Religious Education is well-resourced with a wide range of textbooks, artefacts, DVD’s and videos.
The aim of Religious Education is to provide students with the skills they need to:

Years 7-9 following an exciting and relevant
curriculum. Topics for study are:

Year 7 – Journey of
Life, Questions and Answers, Our World

Year 8 – Worship, Islam, Judaism

Year 9 – Peace and
Conflict, Faith in Action, Is There A God?
Key
Stage 4
At full GCSE, students follow WJEC Religious Studies
Specification B, option with coursework. There are two examinations of 1
hour 35 minutes each. Coursework accounts for 20% of the final mark.
All other students follow WJEC Religious Studies
Specification B Short Course, Option A without coursework, and will be
entered for examination at the end of Year 11. There is one examination of
1 hour 50 minutes.

The
department also offers AS and A2.
At
AS, students follow WJEC GCE in Religious Studies. The two options to be
studied are Introduction to Philosophy of Religion and Introduction to
Eastern Religions: Buddhism.
At
A2, students pursue Studies in Philosophy of Religion and a Religion and
Human Experience module.
