The
Department comprises Mrs. J. Morgan, an experienced Head of Department and
a second member of staff Miss L. Davies who joined the school in 2007.
This has made for a successful team, combining the 15 years’
experience of the H.O.D. with the latest teaching techniques and
innovations brought to the department by Miss Davies.
One of our main priorities is to further integrate the latest
technology in order to enrich pupils’ learning experiences.
Mrs.
E. Hamlin also joined the department in 2007.
She works as a transition teacher between Blaengwawr and our feeder
schools. Her work and
expertise are divided between five junior schools; Blaengwawr, Cap Coch,
Cwmaman, Glynhafod and Oaklands, where she spends Tuesday to Friday at
each in turn and a full day’s teaching at Blaengwawr Comprehensive
School on Mondays. Already the
improvement in pupil attainment across Foundation Phase, Key Stage 2 and
Key Stage 3 is evident. This
bodes extremely well for the future.
In
order to provide Welsh to all pupils up to the age of 16, two further
teachers join the department for one period each week. Mr. L. O’Brien
and Mr. J. Leyshon are full time teachers at Blaengwawr, who are both
first language Welsh speakers. They
also support the department with extra curricular activities, such as St.
David’s Day celebrations and the annual trip to the Urdd camp at
Llangrannog.
The
department occupies adjacent rooms in the “new block”, which are well
equipped with interactive white boards and computers.
Digital and video cameras are made available for pupils’ use in
conjunction with projects, course work, etc.
